Greetings from Section X.
I get a lot of people asking me about the themes in Operation Hurricane and where I came up with the inspiration for it, so I thought I’d give you a quick tour behind the scenes. You may even recognise some of the stories that motivated me.
I love all kinds of books and films, but I know if something has really hit home for me because I end up revisiting it. Every year, without fail, I can always go back and visit the four worlds of James Bond, Mission: Impossible, Indiana Jones and Back To The Future.
I love the intrigue and double-cross of Bond. Never knowing who to trust, the idea of spies operating in the shadows whilst we go about our daily lives. It’s enthralling. Plus, the fast cars and breath-taking action help me forget about life for two hours.
The same goes for Mission: Impossible - those movies are what blockbuster cinema is all about - big set pieces with heroes thinking on their feet and clinging on by their fingertips.
The fact that Indiana Jones is a normal guy in over his head, is what always fascinated me about those movies. He’s a reluctant hero who gets into these amazing adventures because he has such a strong sense of right and wrong. I also love the fact that he’s fighting against an army of evil with only a small team of misfits by his side.
As for Back To The Future, I love the journey Marty McFly goes on. He’s just a teenager who wants a normal life, but ends up travelling through time to save the people he loves.
Each one of these stories, every one of these heroes, has helped me develop Boyd into who he is, what he is forced to fight for and the powers he must fight against.
In my next blog, I’ll go into more detail on each of these incredible stories and what I love about them.
In the meantime, if you haven’t seen them, you should definitely check them out!
